SAFETY INSTRUCTOR AT WORK—Knee-Hi, a wire-haired fox terrier, is busy teaching Washington school children rules of safety. Above, the dog sets a good example by remaining on the curb until traffic has been halted and the policeman has given the signal to cross. A pupil demonstrates what happens frequently when an over anxious youngster attempts to cross a thoroughfare while traffic is in motion. His rashness apparently has saddened the canine safety teacher. On the left is Dr. George E. Brunson, owner of Knee-Hi and director of the current tour of schools. One of the safety principles urged upon children by the dog is “No playing in the streets!” Knee-Hi feels quite strongly on this subject, as witness her efforts here to break up a football game. School, police and traffic officials are co-operating with The Star in the cam paign. —Star Staff Photos - ■ ■ - -

KEEPING TAB ON THE DOG WORLD News and Views of Interest to Pet Owners; Practical Advice on Training and Care: Answers to Queries By R. R. Taynton. Entries for the Old Dominion I Kennel Club dog show were to have been closed officially some days ago, but those who failed to sign up may still phone their entries to Raymond Scaggs, Marlboro 90. before 6 p.m. today. The show will start next Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Alexandria base ball park. It is expected to beat all records for all-breed dog shows south of the Mason-Dixon line. Entries started coming in early this year from far and near, the first being for a Scotty whose owner happened to drop in at the office of her veterinarian, saw the entry blank and promptly filled it out. If you are in doubt about the class in which to enter your dog, a good rule to follow is puppy class if he is between 6 and 12 months, novice class if he is over a year but never has been shown, limit class if he is a blue ribbon winner but not a sure fire purple ribbon winner, and American bred or open if he can stand hot competition. If you live in this area try the local class. There are some swell prizes being offered for local exhibitors. If you would like a few pointers on Cocker spaniel puppies owned by J. B. Kimes, Silver Spring, Md.
